“This represents the fulfillment of a long sought goal. We have been working for years to provide our citizens and visitors with the kinds of amenities and services that are a part of this project.”

—Mayor Richard Verga, Village of Harveysburg

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) has been working to develop a recreational marina at Caesar Creek State Park for the past two decades. In addition to financial and environmental challenges, Caesar Creek Lake is a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers flood control reservoir that experiences water level fluctuations as great as 35 feet. SmithGroupJJR helped ODNR plan and design a new facility that responds to changing water levels, expands recreational opportunities, and enhances water quality and shoreline ecology.

The firm’s approach reflects a fusion of technical expertise and environmentally sensitive design to create a new standard in marina development. The project will feature floating breakwaters that provide deep-water fishing access and protect 419 slips. The interconnected trail network will link the marina, youth fishing pond, waterfront plaza and parking with the nearby swimming beach.  Ecological enhancements include bio-filtration areas to treat runoff, a restored stream and the creation of wetlands and spawning beds. The project will be developed as a public/private partnership, helping ODNR to meet the facility’s long-term fiscal and management goals.
